Samsung took the wraps off from the Tizen OS-running handset, Samsung Z1 in India
Samsung has been working on its own operating system based on the TouchWiz UI for years. The company released a few Tizen OS-powered smartwatches last year. It is not a secret that Samsung is working on the first smartphone running on the platform named Samsung Z1. Initially the expectations for the handset suggested that it will be a mid-ranged to high-end device that was supposed to be announced in Russia. It seems that Samsung has changed its plans and introduced the entry-level Samsung Z1 in India. Keeping in mind that Tizen OS is among the youngest mobile platforms in the digit world, this decision of Samsung seems reasonable just like Mozilla begun the introducing of Firefox OS with entry-level phones, mobile users will have enough time to get familiar to Tizen OS before we see it running on flagships.
Samsung Z1 is a rather small smartphone provided with a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800p. There is a dual-core CPU ticking under the hood clocked at 1.2GHz. The storage and the RAM assured in the device are also modest – only 768MB RAM and 4GB native memory. The phone runs on Tizen OS 2.3. One of the advantages of the platform is that it needs less power of the processor and less memory compared to the most popular operating systems for mobile devices. Smartphones powered by Tizen are expected to provide a smoother user experience, faster device speeds and longer battery life. In addition, the Tizen platform is running on a variety of devices of Samsung, including TVs, cameras and even vacuums which means that users have the possibilities for connecting and working with multiple compatible devices.
The main camera of Samsung Z1 is a rear 3.1MP snapper. There is a camera for video calls is VGA. The new phone works with a 1500mAh battery. It provides support for Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and 3G. Samsung Z1 is getting released at price of INR 5700 (around $92) off-contract. The available colors for the phone are red, white and black.
