OnePlus Two Short Review
One year ago the Chinese manufacturer OnePlus officially presented in the tech world its first flagship, the OnePlus One. The powerful smartphone with a slick design and abundance of features and capabilities made the handset a successful first step of the company on the overcrowded market of mobile devices. One year later, the tech arena is ready to welcome the successor of the OnePlus One dubbed OnePlus Two (OnePlus 2). The smartphone is packed with high-end specs from tip to toe. Everything about the flagship is improved compared to its predecessor.
Built and Design
Rumors and leaks about the OnePlus Two revealed a lot about the device before the event for its announcement. The new model of the company sports an elegant panel made from aluminum-magnesium alloy with a slight curve on the back plate just like its predecessor. The back of the smartphone features the well-known sandstone black finish like the OnePlus One.
The manufacturer is offering a wide choice of changeable back covers for more extraordinary look of the device – Black Apricot, Kevlar, Bamboo and Rosewood. The OnePlus Two measures 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.9 mm (5.98 x 2.95 x 0.39 inches) and weighs 175 grams. The shape of the smartphone follows the hand, and thanks to the textured back plate the new flagship assures the perfect grip.
OnePlus Two arrives with a 5.5-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1080p and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top of it. The pixel density of the display is around 401ppi. The display boasts brightness of 600 nits and 178 degree viewing angle. It is sharp with crisp colors and delivers an exceptional visual experience of users.
The software running on the new flagship is Android 5.0 Lollipop as a foundation of the OxygenOS developed by OnePlus. The platform is rich of options for personalization. The last year’s star of the company arrived with CyanogenMod pre-installed on it. The software of OnePlus 2 boasts abundance of capabilities and features, including dark mode, LED notifications, customizable accent colors, improved access to permissions of applications etc. The smartphone supports off-screen gestures, such as double tapping for waking up the screen, easy launching of the camera by drawing O on the display etc.
In terms of performance, the OnePlus 2 is promising to be among the fastest and most powerful smartphones on the market released this year thanks to its 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip. The processor that powers the model is octa-core. The configuration consists of quad-core Cortex-A53, and quad-core Cortex-A57 clocked at 1.8GHz. The GPU Adreno 430 is provided for the graphics of the flagship. The RAM and memory included in the device is with two options 3GB RAM with 16GB storage, and 4GB with 64GB internal memory. The OnePlus Two does not support microSD cards for memory. Multitasking will be easy and fast with this new addition of OnePlus.
As expected, the OnePlus Two boasts two cameras. On the back of the device lies the primary six lenses 13MP sensor with dual-LED flash, f/2 aperture, 1.3μm light-collecting pixels for an improved performance in low-light, and laser autofocus. Among the advantages of the camera is also the optical image stabilization.
It has the capabilities to record 4K video. The camera app is packed with features for improved performance of the cameras, including HDR, Beauty and Clear Shot. On the front panel of OnePlus 2 is integrated a 5MP snapper with wide viewing angles.
The battery tucked in the heart of the OnePlus Two is with a capacity of 3300mAh (non-removable). The OnePlus promises all-day long battery life of the device in normal usage. The flagship has USB Type-C charging port which is reversible at both ends.
The connectivity capabilities of the OnePlus 2 are plenty. It is a dual-SIM device with support for 4G. It supports also Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G LTE. It doesn’t support NFC, because of the low interest of users towards this functionality.
OnePlus 2 is equipped with fingerprint sensor on the front panel. It is promising a faster performance than the similar features of rival models, like Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6.
OnePlus 2 is getting released in August 2015. The entering price of the flagship is $330 (around £212) for the 16GB version, and $390 (around £250) for the 64GB device. It is getting launched in Sandstone Black color. The smartphone will be available worldwide, however in order to buy it, users need invites.
