Xiaomi Mi 5 is the new flagship of the company with a fingerprint sensor and high-end specs
This MWC event in Barcelona brought more than a few new impressive flagships in the tech world. One of the stars at the conference is the Xiaomi Mi 5. It is the new high-end smartphone of the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, and the first flagship of the company announced at a global event. To say that the Mi 5 was an eagerly anticipated device is an understatement. The handset appeared in numerous leaks and rumors in the last months. The waiting has come to an end, say “Hello” to the Xiaomi Mi 5 in its full glory. It is provided with high-end specs with a powerful performance.
The appearance of the handset includes an elegant design with slightly curved back plate similar to another device of the company, the Xiaomi Mi Note. Mi 5 arrives with a 5.15-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1080p and ultra-bright 16-LED backlighting. The display works with sunlight Display tech for a superior visual experience of users.
Hardware-wise, the new flagship works with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip under the hood with the “help” of either 3GB or 4GB RAM on board. The first model packs 32GB storage while the second is provided with 64GB internal memory. The software running on the Xiaomi Mi 5 is the newest available update of the Google’s platform, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the MIUI 7 for a more customized experience.
Moving towards the cameras, the flagship doesn’t disappoint with its 16MP rear snapper as a main camera. It has a dual-tone LED flash with DTS pixel isolation, phase detection autofocus and 4 axis OIS. If any of those tech specs are unknown to you – just trust Xiaomi’s possibilities to deliver an awesome camera in a smartphone. On the front panel is set a 4MP sensor with pixel side of 2 microns. With other words – an awesome secondary camera with Beautify features is packed in Mi 5. On the front panel is included a fingerprint scanner.
The battery of the new flagship of Xiaomi is with a capacity of 3000mAh. If you are wondering whether the device supports quick charging, the answer is YES. It is compatible with the Quick Charge 3.0 of Qualcomm that can charge the battery with a capacity for 2.5 hours talk time for just 5 min.
Xiaomi is offering the Mi 5 with 3D glass back plates. The more advanced variant of the device, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is outfitted with 3D ceramic back covers and 128GB storage. In terms of connectivity capabilities, the phone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, VoLTE and 4G Cat.12 LTE. The release date of the flagship is scheduled for 1st of March in China. It is offered in fold, black and white. The price of the 32GB Mi 5 is Chinese Yuan 1999 ($306), the 64GB model costs Chinese Yuan 2299 ($352). Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro will be available for Chinese Yuan 2699 (around $413).
