Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are unveiled in Barcelona

Two new mid-rangers Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL enter the mobile arena

Microsoft had two new handsets to present at MWC 2015 in Barcelona along with a brief introducing of the Windows 10 OS which is yet to be announced properly. The Lumia series is expanding with Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL.

Microsoft Lumia 640 is a mid-ranged smartphone outfitted with a 5-inch IPS glass, 720p resolution. On the top of the display is provided Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip with quad cores set at 1.2GHz and 1GB RAM. The model has 8GB memory provided for users. MicroSD cards are supported by the model for adding of more storage. The Lumia 640 runs on Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft shared its plans for both handsets to be upgraded to Windows 10.

The camera that is laying on the rear of the device is with 8MP with LED flash. The selfie snapper is with 1MP. Microsoft is releasing two variants of the smartphone – a single SIM and a dual-SIM model. Connectivity-wise Lumia 640 comes in two flavors – 3G and LTE-enabled. The new mid-ranger is getting its juice from a 2500mAh battery. Microsoft is following the tradition for releasing the entry-level Lumias in different colors, such as Black, White, Cyan and Orange. The 3G variant of Lumia 640 will be on the shelves of retailers and carriers for €140. The LTE model is slightly more expensive and will be offered for €160. The phone is getting launched this spring.

The second new smartphone is Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. It is larger than the original handset and boasts a 5.7-inch glass with 720p resolution. It is extra-tough thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 laying on the top. In the heart of the mid-ranger is ticking a quad-core CPU. It is clocked at 1.2GHz and works in configuration with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset. It has 1GB RAM and 8GB native storage. MicroSD cards are used for expansion. Lumia 640 XL runs on Windows Phone 8.1. It should be upgraded to Windows 10 when the update starts rolling-out. The rear  camera of the device is its primary shooter. It is with 13MP resolution, 1/3-inch sensor, Carl Zeiss f/2.0 lens and a LED flash. The secondary camera is also impressive. It is a 5MP sensor with wide-angle 24mm lens and capabilities to capture 1080p. The Lumia 640 XL is coming to markets in two variants. The 3G-enabled device will cost €190. The smartphone that supports LTE will be listed at €220. Microsoft will be selling single and dual-SIM variants. The battery of Lumia 640 XL is with a capacity of 3000mAh.
