The new rugged smartphone CAT S60 features an integrated thermal camera
The newest rugged smartphones have more than a few features that impress users. The new CAT S60 for example is armed with an integrated thermal camera. It is definitely not something that can be found in most smartphones, even the rugged ones! Before we reveal a bit more about the thermal camera, let’s first go through the rest of the specs of the device. The CAT S60 packs a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 720p and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chip in a configuration with 3GB RAM.
The new rugged phone features 32GB of storage by default. Users can use microSD cards for expansion of the provided memory. The software pre-installed on the device is also awesome – Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. On the rear plate of the CAT S60 lies a 13MP primary camera while on the front panel is located a 5MP camera. The device is LTE-enabled. It works with a 3800mAh battery.
CAT S60 is outfitted with a rugged case that is resistant to water, dust, hits and etc. The screen can be used with gloves. The thermal camera integrated in the CAT S60 can measure the temperature of objects from a distance of 15m-30m (50ft-100ft). It works through smoke as well which makes it a reliable smartphone to be used by firefighters for example. The thermal camera is made by Flir. It can show 640 x 480px thermal video. CAT is taking the new smartphone to the MWC 2016 starting next week. It is getting launched in May at a price of $599 (€649) off-contract.
